Nokia Camera Extension to Grace Lumia Windows Phones

Nokia appears to be truly committed to Windows Phones and while the hardware capabilities are standardized over OEMs, the Finnish manufacturer is further differentiating itself from the others with the help of dedicated applications, like the Creative Studio from the end of March. Furthermore, a “Camera Extension” will be launched for the Lumia line-up which will integrate with the Camera application of Windows Phone, but with added features.

Nokia to launch Nokia Lumia 900 in Hong Kong with new Camera features

blogjackphone A while ago we reported from analysis of a leaked ROM that Nokia would be updating the camera features of their Lumia range to include features such as Panorama and Self-timer. That the feature would be built-in was confirmed by Nokia’s camera guru Damian Dinning.  So far Nokia has only released the Nokia Creative Studio, which includes a Panorama app, and we had thought that was it. Now we have a report from BLOGJACK, a Nokia blog in Hong Kong,  who attended a briefing giving by Nokia Hong Kong and a local retailer, Wilsoncomm on the Nokia Lumia 900, where it was revealed that the Lumia 900 will ship with what they call Camera Extension. The software will bring Lumia users a panorama feature, smart group capture, burst mode and self timer. One of Nokia’s major claims to fame has always been their camera software, so it would be good to see them taking charge some more of this user experience in their Lumia phones. Amazon to Abandon Rumored 8.9-Inch Kindle Fire For Upcoming 10.1-inch Model?

Rumors about Amazon and it’s highly anticipated Kindle Fire refresh are nothing new and extraordinary given how popular the initial tablet was (and still is) among customers and on the market, in general. According to reports, Amazon was preparing a follow-up — actually, more — which would have an 8.9-inch screen. We say was because new rumors have started surfacing according to which the 8.9-inch model will be skipped altogether. ]

Windows Phone takes China by storm–already 7% market share, ahead of iPhone

When Microsoft announced at the launch of Windows Phone Tango handsets in China that passing the iPhone in China was just an interim goal on the way to overtaking Android, it did seem rather grandiose.

It seems Microsoft was right however, with Michel van der Bel, COO Greater China Region at Microsoft saying that a mere 2 months after the launch Windows Phone 7 handsets already had a 7% market share in China, ahead of the 6% of the iPhone there.

"We have only just begun," he noted, saying he expects the synergies between Windows 8 tablets and Windows Phone will power even more growth.

“Our smartphone and tablet-pc are hybrid, making them suitable for the consumer, but also easy to insert within an existing company infrastructure. This will allow us to better anticipate the consumerization of IT than many competitors. "

IDC had predicted Windows Phone would ovetake iPhone in China, but only next year.

They expected Windows Phone would take 7.5 percent of the China market this year, trailing the 12 percent share of Apple’s IOS and Android’s 70 percent, but by next year, Windows share was expected to rise to 15 percent, surpassing Apple’s 13 percent.

Android still dominates the Chinese mobile market with a market share of around 69 percent.

In terms of the app battle, Bell admitted that Windows Phone was behind. "We indeed still have a battle. There are currently working at our R & D Department 2,500 people in China. We will  invest heavily in there, "said the COO.

Windows Phone recently ovetook the iPhone in Russia also, making for a trend we can certainly appreciate.

Nokia Distributor Expecting Windows Phone 8 Hardware By Year’s End

Once Windows Phone 8 “Apollo” makes its official debut, presumably this fall, we’re hoping to see new WP8 hardware emerge from many of Microsoft’s manufacturing partners. Presumably, most will aim for new hardware by the end of the year, so that they may capitalize on holiday season sales. For now, a lot of these plans are no more than rumors, but we continue to gather what info’s available in hopes of forming a picture of what to expect in advance of any formal announcements.

Galaxy S III With 2GB RAM Tipped For Japan

It’s no secret that Samsung’s Galaxy S III is arriving in a couple different hardware configurations, featuring both a quad-core Exynos chip and a dual-core Snapdragon S4 option, depending on carrier and region. What’s been consistent, though, has been the inclusion of a single gigabyte of RAM. That’s pretty much par-for-the-course with any modern Android, though we’ve begun to see the start of a ...

Radar Rabbit for Windows Phone lacks.

Radar Rabbit for WP7.5 seems to be a new social networking app that wants to take on the originals like WNMlive. I would love to tell you more about the app, but after trying to use it for about an hour, I was blocked by the administator of the site for no real reason. It had a few great features that I found before I was booted. The ability to trash a comment is golden, and the way carrots were given for compatable accounts was a seemingly good idea. Now its time for flaws. The user interface for the app is lacking at the very least. I spent 30 minutes just looking over the blase’ metro like design while posting that, I needed help (with no response) before I finally figured it out. The user interface is hard to navigate and new smartphone users will be at a disadvantage. User usage is almost nonexistant, 3 active users were on at the time including me and the administator. I’m happy to see new developers try in this market, especially since Microsoft has made it so easy, but I wish they would take it a little more seriously when it comes to the design and audience.
